Man airlifted into wreckage of local motorcycle | Crime and courts

Editor’s note: Police initially said the man died of his injuries, but later said he suffered life-threatening injuries.

GARY – A man suffered life-threatening injuries after a vehicle struck him while he was riding a motorcycle, police said.

First responders were called at 5 p.m. Tuesday to a wreckage on Martin Luther King Drive and East 21st Avenue, Gary Police Department Cmdr said. Jack Hamadi.

A man riding a motorbike was hit by a vehicle at the intersection, Hamady said.

The man suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a trauma hospital in Illinois. His current condition is unknown, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Reconstruction Unit assisted police and Gary’s medics at the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, police said.
